When the Call Comes

poem by Emily Ruth Hazel

I have your heart on the line.

Your mind scrolls

through contacts, tries to place

the voice. Is that a threat

or an invitation?

The poem breathes

into the receiver,

offers heart and mind

a ride on a double-decker

bus. Who knows

where it will take you?
